We are looking to backfill several years of data from eDNA data management into PI. OSIsoft recommends using the OSIsoft's OPC DA interface. Has anyone done this previously? What does the process look like?
You will want the eDNA OPC HDA server not DA. This allows historical data queries. I don't know if eDNA offers the OPC server but some 3rd vendors such as Matrikon does.
We had tried the OPC HDA interface, but found it would have taken a few months, so we wrote an application to perform the migration and got it down to several days. Of course, for you, the speed will really depend on how many tags, how dense the data, and how many years of data you want to migrate.
To follow on Dan's comment, I have worked with one company that already had an eDNA extraction method and then fed text files into the UFL interface (note the UFL connector has faster write rates than the interface).
Thank you Don and Brian for the response here!
Brian - Quick question - What is the 'eDNA extraction method' or tool you mentioned here?
