ISOs (Independent System Operators), RCs (Reliability Coordinators), and RTOs (Regional
Transmission Organizations) are responsible for coordinating the delivery of bulk
electric power. Configuration and access to their systems are usually subject
to NERC CIP regulations. These organizations require HA (High Availability) of
their control and monitoring systems. This usually drives them to employ
redundancy and geographic diversity.
This ISRA (Industry Specific Reference Architecture) for ISOs, RCs, and RTOs shows
the OSIsoft PI System™ software components distributed among separate hosts to isolate
functions, enable routine configuration of rigorous security policies, and simplify
updates. This ISRA also shows how to employ redundancy and geographic diversity
to meet requirements on availability.
