Does a reason for an event frame have to be an Enumeration Set?
Can it be a manual entry?
In which client are you looking for the manual entry?
The PI Vision development team has completed work to allow users to edit the value of Event Frame reason attributes (based on the new Reason attribute trait in PI AF 2017 R2) on the Event Table and Event Details page in PI Vision 2017 R2. Upgrade to PI Vision 2017 R2 to take advantage of this and other new features. You can read about what’s new in PI Vision 2017 R2 in the release announcement: https://techsupport.osisoft.com/Troubleshooting/Releases/RL01278

Allison - reason codes are only enumerated sets. If someone needs to manually add something, we have them do so in the comment field. What we have been doing with customers is building Power BI reports for capturing numbers of events by asset, etc. We want reason codes to be standardized. Comments can be free form. That way, we can capture all of the info, but we want some consistency with reason codes. The tricky part is retrieving reason codes, comments, and who acknowledged the events as they are all stored in different AF tables. You just have to do the proper joins. Send me a message if you need anything.
