What is the properties of reference elements if created in AF and do they have two separate EF created and notifications will be send separately?
It will only create one EF and one notification.
Thanks for response on this but when we query data on PI builder it shows two similar Event frames with 2 different path 1 is base element and other path is reference element.
Also, is there any place where i can read property of referenced element on tech support.
I wonder if this is just how PI Builder is showing it as the path can be extremely misleading for reference elements! Do the EF have the same UniqueID?
You probably might want to discuss this with OSIsoft technical support/customer success managers and they can provide you with documentation.
I ran a quick test with the latest versions and can't replicate this; what versions (AF Server & Client) are you using? Also, Dan's idea to check the unique id is a good one; it could be the same EF shown in two different ways. What query did you run in PI Builder? When I run an EF search, I only return one result and the reference element shown is the original element, not the one that is set as a reference in the hierarchy. Please see below:
The element named Child under Parent1 has an EF Generation analysis and is referenced under Parent2. An EF is created; here is the search result in PSE (only one EF returned):
An EF search is run in PI Builder (be sure to add the columns UniqueID and ParentUniqueID under the EventFrame group and Element References at the bottom):
Only a single EF is returned with the original element in the hierarchy shown as its reference element:
Is it possible that the element in your hierarchy that you think is a reference is actually an independent copy of the original element? You can check this by looking at the unique ID of the elements in either PI Builder:
Or in PSE by right clicking the Status Bar at the bottom and selecting Show Unique ID:
After this, the UID of the selected object in PSE will be shown in the lower right on the Status Bar:
For further reading on element references, please see the AF documentation: PI Server
