Can anyone provide a list of methods on getting data from PI Data Archive to Power BI? Is PI Web API one of them? Which is easier to setup, manage?
The method i exclusively use is to use the PI Integrator for Business Analytics to push datasets out to a data store (e.g. SQLServer, Azure SQL, Amazon S3 bucket, etc.), and use that in PowerBI.
I would agree. We have used PI OLEDB Enterprise for some specialized things where that data we needed wasn't exposed in the Integrator, but the Integrator is by far the best choice for most applications.
If you already have a more modern version of AF, then using PI SQL Clients to SQL DAS(RTQP) should be easy as well. But this option can be cumbersome if the user is more than 10...
If there's such scalability involved, then PI Integrator publishing to SQL Server or any data warehouse would be more robust way.
Standard Rest Calls means one Table per "pI point"
Joined doesn't really work with PowerBI ("Dataformat")
Awesome! Will have a chat with the PI support team and see what can they get from the customer portal.
The Power BI that we are using are on prem ( Report server) not the cloud one.
I see a lot of other options passing by, but for me the key differentiator between Business Integrator and the other methods presented is that you don't need technical PI knowledge to pull data from PI nor do you need to understand how the data is stored in PI.
By separating the production of datasets from the consumption in PowerBI you will make the knowledgable team responsible for providing correct data in the right context, and the comsumer in PowerBI can just use that. Separation of responsibilities.
