Is there any standalone interface which works similar to the Random interface?
What do you mean with "Standalone"? The random interface is "standalone" and since recent PI Server versions only included in a separate install.
Can we create multiple interfaces of Random interface
Hi Ashitha Kadamba:
Yes, users can configure multiple instances of the random interface, as with other pi interfaces. The key is making the point source unique for each such as 'R01', 'R02', 'R03', etc. Then you can configure the 'span' and 'zero' attributes of the pi points to achieve the desired range of values. The attached two images demonstrate what I am talking about.
This interface is indeed an exception where the instanceID cannot be used for multiple instances. Also ensure you difference Service ID"s for the windows service.
Why do you need multiple instances of the Random interface? I really can't think of any...
We came to know that only about 500 tags can be created using one instance. So we are thinking of creating more than 5000 tags using random interface( for mimicking real time data scenario).
That is one way to do it, never seen this approach. If you just need random data in bulk, i've done load testing of PI in the past with a custom C# PI application using AFSDK. That could write >20M events/second to 100K PI Points when running on a simple laptop. So if you're proficient with coding and AFSDK, that is maybe the easiest path...
Thank you James. In Data archive 2016 installation kit, I am not able to find the Random Interface .exe file. To Create the instance of Random Interface , can you please let me know where do I find the .exe file.
On the PI Server you can find it under %piphome64%\interfaces\Random. The trick here it is a 64-bit interface.
You also can download it from the products site. I suggest just typing in "Random" and keeping your fingers crossed. If you are like me,my colleagues and I assume everyone else, it can be quite confusing to download OSIsoft products.
