Hi PI enthusiasts! Have someone already did configure Power BI to connect to the PI System?
Not through Excel (PI Datalink), but somehow directly? PI Integrator for Business Analytics?
Hi Yermek Naurzaly
Please find the PI Square thread PI OLEDB and Power BI connection string which gives a method of connection to the PI System Via PI OLEDB Provider.
Alternatively you can follow https://customers.osisoft.com/s/knowledgearticle?knowledgeArticleUrl=How-to-connect-Microsoft-Power-BI-to-the-PI-Data-Archive-using-the-PI-OLEDB-Provider which provides the same.
If your organization uses the PI Asset Framework, I would recommend installing the PI SQL DAS (RTQP Engine) on the PI AF server and then use PI SQL Client for your queries instead of PI OLEDB Provider. PI SQL Client queries are much faster and easier to optimize than PI OLEDB Provider queries.
I have a blog post that covers how to get started with PI SQL Client in Excel. Since Excel and Power BI both use Power Query to retrieve data, I think that you'll still benefit from reading it.
Thanks and this helps.
If you have PI Integrator already, then you could also publish the views to your favorite database and use that database driver in PowerBI. MS SQL Drivers are almost always included in windows settings as well.
With larger-scale data pull or many users, PI Integrator can work better. In smaller settings, I'd also say to use the PI SQL Clients as Kenneth Barber mentioned.
