Is anyone using the Webservice call functionality in PI Notifications to send messages to SMS maybe including Teams, Skype, or phone chat? What were the challenges entailed here?
We're using this approach in our product Amitec - SMS Notification for PI System Asset Framework, which supports sending messages through online gateways and GSM modems.
We've had this product for many years, it started its life as a custom delivery channel but we rewrote it once these weren't supported anymore.
I've also used a similar approach when integrating SAP PM with the PI System, in order to create work orders in SAP once certain conditions are met in the PI System. I remember having to write a relay service in that case, because the authentication process required multiple steps (first obtaining a token from Azure AD, then using that to authenticate with the web service which would create the SAP work order. This web service was part of the company data services API, at my customer.)
If the authentication hadn't been a multi-stepped operation I think I could have called the RESTful API directly from the AF WebService Delivery Channel.
Thanks for this - I've looked up the reference..
Teams has a nice feature where you can send an email to a channel. If you only need to send Notifications to Teams, then all you need to setup is an email account and a Teams channel.
Send an email to a channel in Teams - Office Support
Thanks Sebastien - That's an interesting (almost hidden) feature of Teams and useful in this circumstance..
great to get the link
I'll post back if this works..
In the PSM toolkit we've sometimes used the functionality some mobile service providers have where you can send a text message via email using the phone number of the mobile @ a certain address from the service provider. It's best to create a text-specific notification email format that limits the information sent so there aren't multiple messages due to length, and removes special formatting. Steve Edwards can provide further info - he has used it personally and configured it for the PSM toolkit.
Cyndi beat me to the SMS gateway method to send texts, but I can provide a bit of documentation to help:
Thanks Cyndi & Bro.. good tips..
