    Problems updating PI Server 2012 x64-RC0 to x64

    AiKju

      Hello,

      I just tried to update my PI 2012 Server - RC0 to the new available PI 2012 Server (v3.4.390.16). The installation always stops at module 12 of 37 (PI Server) after a "minimal backup" with the following error:

      "The PI Server installation.... The 32-bit PIPCHOME directory cannot be the same as the 64-bit PIPCHOME directory. Please change one of the target directories. "

      But there is no chance to change a directory in the update path?! Can anyone help me?

      With best regards

      Kai

          Hello Kai,

          Is the PI 2012 RC0 installation 32 or 64 bit?

          What's the value of PIHOME and PIHOME64 environment variable?

          Please open a command prompt and execute the following commands:

          echo %pihome%

          echo %pihome64%

          Please also inform about the following registry values:

          1. PIHOME in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PISystem

          2. PIHOME in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\PISystem

              Hi Gregor,

              Thank you for your quick response! Both are 64-bit.

              PIHOME is: E:\Program files (x86)\PIPC

              PIHOME64 is: E:\Program files\PIPC

              PIHOME in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PISystem is: E:\Program files\PIPC

              PIHOME in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\PISystem is: E:\Program files (x86)\PIPC

                  Hello Kai,

                  These definitions are looking good to me.

                  According to setup.ini of the PI 2012 (3.4.390.16) setup kit module # 12 is the PI Server itself (PIServer_X64.msi).

                  We may have to hand over your issue to TechSupport in case it requires more intensive troubleshooting. I've just did some research in our call database and recognized that I missed that there exists another place the 32-bit PIHOME information is stored: the pipc.ini file that is located in the Windows folder (usually C:\Windows)

                  Can you please ensure the entries are as follows?

                  PIHOME=E:\Program files (x86)\PIPC

                  PIPCSHARE= E:\Program files (x86)\PIPC
