Backfill data without reprocessing archives after PI 2012 upgrade

    RAtkinson

I want to leverage the new feature of PI 2012 that allows for backfilling data without reprocessing archives.  We are currently running PI 2010 and will be upgrading to PI 2012.  The archives are version 8.  Will the upgrade automatically upgrade the version of the existing archives to make them backfill-friendly?

          Hello Rebekah,

Yes, when you start the service PI Archive Subsystem (version 3.4.390.16), it will upgrade your archives from version 8 to 9. The version 9 of the archives is backfill-friendly. Version 8 is related to the PI Server 3.4.380.x and PI Server 2010. To complete my answer, the version of the new archives created on PI Server 2012 will be 10.

Just an FYI, we were able to move archives between 2010 and 2012 by rolling back the version number after backfilling in 2012 (our client was not upgrading).  We wanted to take advantage of the 2012 features so did the work with it.  After finishing, we rolled back the version from 10 to 8, it work like a charm.  Here is an example script:

              cd "c:\program files\pi\adm"

              pidiag -ahd "D:\@ProcessData\CurrentArchiveProcessing\piarchjul-aug2010d"

              pidiag -adg 9 "D:\@ProcessData\CurrentArchiveProcessing\piarchjul-aug2010d"

              pidiag -adg 8 "D:\@ProcessData\CurrentArchiveProcessing\piarchjul-aug2010d"

              pidiag -ahd "D:\@ProcessData\CurrentArchiveProcessing\piarchjul-aug2010d"
