This short article is very interesting in trying to distinguish between "Big Data" and "Business Analytics". It defines Big Data as a set of tools (software and/or hardware) that looks at a lot of data and makes inferences or decisions on its own. The results can be used by humans later on; however, and this is key, at no point it needs human interaction or intervention. The machines move forward and do what they need to do and produce the outcome.
In contrast, Business Analytics requires human intervention and intuition. At some point someone needs to look at the charts and numbers to make a conclusion.
Where do you see PI System stand in this picture? Is it supposed to serve business analytics or, do Big Data operations on its own?
