Upgrade order for PI data archive server running on windows 2003 sp2?

We have a data archive server that has been rock solid reliable for the last 10 years and that has not seem many changes since it was installed.  The version is 3.4.364.32.   With Microsoft's EOL for 2003, we've decided to upgrade the PI server and move it to a virtual environment.  We've got to achieve several tasks on the server itself:

1. Move from Physical to Virtual.

2. Move from Server 2003 sp2 to Server 2012.

3. Upgrade PI data archive to 2014 (possibly 2015?)

Does anybody have experience with this scenario?  I've looked at the Installation and Upgrade  Guide, but I couldn't find a scenario that quite matched.  One piece of advice was to perform the move before the upgrade, but I wasn't sure how many people would have possibly tired moving this vintage of PI Server to a MS Server 2012 install.  Trying not to tread new ground with this critical system, if possible.

Thanks in advance!
