Is there a notification 'test' button to send a notification to a single user out of the subscription list in the 2016 PI System Explorer, like there was in the 2014 version?
It sounds like you are trying to get back to the SMTP connection test menu where you can test sending out an email.
This is still present in PI System Explorer 2016. Please go to File>Server Properties>Plugins.
Scroll Down to "Email", right click on it and select Settings
This will bring you back to the familiar GUI for setting up and sending a SMTP server and a test email.
Please give this a shot.
That one is easy. I mean in notifications you used to be able to select a subscriber and then click to test button to test what the email looked like to the end user.

I apologize for the misunderstanding.
In the notifications rules tab, please click on the option to manage formats. Then click on the format that applies to the subscriber to see how the email would look to the end user.
Generally speaking, this is not the best method for testing the format of the notification email and the notification. I recommend triggering the notification to see the final email format and to make sure that the notification's logic is correct.
Then everyone in the subscription list gets one as well.
This doesn't exist. Unfortunately, with a tight release schedule we decided not to do this for the 2016 R2. We are working on it for a future release.
