How to reference an attribute in another element (weak-reference)

Hello:

I think I understand the concept of weak-references to other elements.  I'm trying to figure out how to accomplish the same thing, but at the attribute level.

We already have our elements with attributes established.  Our engineering team likes it and the abundance of attributes (data) it provides.  However, our math team would like a "lite" version of this.  I had started to create an element tree just for the math team and was going to simply link (kind of like a shortcut) to the already existing attributes, but couldn't figure it out.  I could only seem to link to existing elements.  Our math math team only needs 20% of all our elements and attributes.  Beyond that, it's considered noise in a structure their team doesn't care for.  My goal is to maintain only one attribute as the "master", so if I need to modify in the future, all references are automatically updated.

BTW - I'd prefer to maintain only one AF DB.  For the most part we do not use templates.

Thoughts?

Thanks...t
