How PIFD database backup in .bak format is different from Export to file(.XML) format?
The backup of the PIFD database is a backup of the complete SQL database where as an XML export is simply an export of a particular AF object. XML exports are useful for moving AF objects but they don't contain all of the information to be considered a backup. To restore an entire AF Server to a previous state, you need to restore the PIFD database from a backup.

Thanks Rapaso. Does the backup of transaction log is required daily or only PIFD Full backup is enough for restoration during disaster?
The transaction logs are needed if your database is configured for Full Recovery mode. Here is the information extracted from KB00689 (https://techsupport.osisoft.com/Troubleshooting/KB/KB00689)
May I know if there is any way to script the backup of AF Database to an XML file?
