On the PI OPC client, I see that the data is updating but the above error is showing up on the pimsg log. I have verified the OPC server's details on the interface instance and it is right. Still this error is showing up. Any advise?
The error was thrown when trying to connect the PI Interface for OPC DA ?
What was the exact error with error code? Was it a DCOM related error? Where is the OPC server (same or other node)?
Here are a few basic troubleshooting steps you can try as well:
1) Make sure the hostname/ip and name of the OPC Server is properly configured for the interface. You can do this in the PI Interface Configuration Utility under the OPCint tab.
2) Try running the OPC client as the same user running the OPC interface.
I just had this issue pop up. weirdly on 2 PC's that had been working fine with their OPC interface for weeks til a network outage last night.
(ensuring I was using the same user always) I tried the OSIsoft provided OPC browser, and that worked just fine getting values.
but since i was still seeing this issue
I tried another OPC browser, called OPCexpert, that I'ved used over the years
this still also let me get values, but also gave this warning
so, something about the callbacks was not working.
I went to the source PC's and checked that everything was set up correctly and it looked like it still was.
but when I tried to run an app (just notepad) as the OPC user we use, i got a error.
I went to the computer's users and saw that the password for the OPC user had somehow been set to
"user must change password"
instead of "password never expires, user cannot change password" which normally is
so that was strange but correcting that fixed the problem and allowed the data to come through!
this was a very specific answer for a vague error, so your situation is (probably) different, but I'd have a look at the firewall and OPC user settings on the OPC source machine, make sure everything is okay.
