Is it possible via PI OLEDB Enterprise to query the tables in PI Asset Framework directly without using a "Table Lookup" data reference attribute?
There is no direct option to configure PI AF to get data directly from PI OPLEDB enterprise without using Table lookup. Table lookup is designed to get data from various data sources like SQL, Oracle etc. In AF Table lookup is mainly used for providing data to AF attributes from external source and add context to business process defined.
Please let us know the use case and will look forward to assist.
Can you please explain what you are trying to achieve?
"PI OLEDB Enterprise is an OLE DB data provider that provides access to the PI System in a relational view, accessible through SQL queries. The provider supports read-only access to asset and event data stored in the PI Asset Framework (AF), such as AF Elements, AF Attributes and PI Event Frames. PI OLEDB Enterprise also provides read-only access to time series data from the PI Data Archive, since attributes can be configured to reference PI points."
"Table Lookup" data reference attribute connects to AF Tables that is linked to an external database, or relational data-set, and get that data into PI System and map that data to AF attributes, which can be used for Analytics or in displays. If you want to write the data from external database into PI Asset Framework directly, then that is not possible using PI OLEDB Enterprise.
There are other methods to get data into PI System from external databases such as writing the data from the external database to PI Tags using PI RDBMS Interface.
You can also build your own "Custom Data Reference" if you want, that connects directly to the SQL Server and Database and can skip using "Table Lookup" data reference, but from your query I don't think that is the option you are looking for.
Hope this helps. Please let us know more about your requirements so that we can provide specific directions.
As Jaison suggested, can you share your use case and objective(s) ?
There aren't many use cases to use PI OLEDB Enterprise to retrieve data that is already in the same AF Server.
