    PI Builder - Excel

    KrystianSobotka

      Hello everyone

      I have a question. I was adding new point to PI System in Excel using PI Builder. I did not configure field- excdev and compdev, becasue usually its automaticlly configured. System did not configure it properly so I got a bad value because the compdev and excdev was the same. Excdev should be half of compdev?

      e.g,:

      I configure Span: 1400 Typicalvalue: 700 and zero: 0. I recived a value : Compdev: 14 and Excdev: 14.

          Hello!

          Well, if you don't specify them, it will set them to whatever your system's configured default is, which appears to be 1% of span for both.  That is possible, though I am not sure if that it what you intended.  To see what those default values are, the primary way I do this is with piconfig:

          Open a command prompt on your Data Archive server.

          Type:  CD /D %PISERVER%\ADM <enter>

          Type: piconfig <enter>

          In PIConfig, run the commands:

          * (Ls - ) PIconfigtabl pipoint <enter>

          * (Ls - PIPOINT) PIconfig> ?atr <enter>

          *> ?Atr  (excuse the spacing)

          Lines 6 and 21 are of interest to you - they specify the default compdev and excdev values for a tag spanned 0-100.

          Note: this can also be done in the PI System Management Tools (PI-SMT).  Select your server, and go to Points -> Point Classes.  Select the Base (or whichever point class you're interested in) point class and look at the excdev/excdevpercent and compdev/compdevpercent fields.

          Hope this helps!

                  Hi, Krystian!

                  Modifying the default attributes is a rather complex task, and you'd be best talking to Tech Support.  They can help out with that fairly handily, but you want to make sure you're changing the settings for the proper Point Class and they'd be able to make sure you're not making any errors.

                  It involves using PIconfig to modify the PIATRSET table for the point class(es) you're interested in (probably just Base for the compdev and excdev).  I'm not trying to avoid helping, but this info was specifically removed from our more recent user documentation due to people accidentally damaging their PI systems' data.
