Hi, I am just wondering is there an application or connector that could assist me migrate existing Historian (Siemens SIMATIC IT) to OSIPI ?
Or I need to perform manual data extract from Historian database and upload to OSIPI on my own ?
Do you want to perform a one time migration (get all the data from SIMATIC IT to PI then replacing the data collector nodes to send data to PI) or do you want to get historical data and then continuously send live data from SIMATIC to PI?
Yes, I would like to perform one time migration and then decommission SIMATIC IT and switch the archiving PI. Not aware that we can get SIMATIC to PI too. Maybe I can perform a parallel run for data comparison before switch over. Is there any documentation or tools I can use ?
Depending what data you want to bring in from the MES system, there are a few different possible approaches. If the process data is coming from PCS7, then PCS7 exposes its data as an OPC UA Server, so you can use the PI Connector for Siemens PCS7 (variation of the OPC UA connector). Otherwise, you can connect to the relational database backend of SIMATIC IT and collect data (historical + live) using the RDBMS via ODBC interface.
Is it possible to migrate everything - trends, alarms and events and audit trail related data ? I guess RDBMS via ODBC interface will be one of the option to migrate the old data that has been archived. New one, I can use connector.
Just curious, whether the RDBMS via ODBC interface knows which table to load into OSI ? Do I need to setup anything upfront ? or I can model the structure directly from SIMATIC ?
The interface simply allows you to execute TSQL queries, so you would need to know where the data resides and how to access it. If you want a full migration performed (alarms, trends, calculations, audit, displays), then the best route would be to work with a system integrator that can take the time to understand the full scope of your system and how you want to have it in PI. It may also require some additional customization.
Ok, I understand now. There's no connector or interface from OSI that able to plug in a retrieve everything. We need to review Siemens documentation on how to extract the data out.
